Magnets and trays

Post  Legion of Hufferblight on Mon May 28, 2012 11:26 pm

I saw several people at the tournament with magnetized miniatures, including Devstro from our forums. Quick question for you Dev is how big and how many magnets you used for your miniatures did you use? I like miniature bags for transport but taking them out and putting them back in between rounds is a pain and I broke many of the minis I used. I think a tray would be best to use while there.
So Dev could you send me an answer and what do others on this forum think of the carrying tray Devon had, the wooden one. I liked it but I want to go magnets for the protection of my mini's. I am accident prone at times.
Talk to you all later.

Here are the magnets I use for my 30mm minis:
Here are the magents I use for my 40-50mm minis:

Several years ago I bought 100 of each, and I still have some of them, although the price has gone up because of a neodymium shortage. I use green stuff and super glue to attach them to the bottom of the base. I got the idea from this video:

The tray is a steel baking pan I got at Wal-Mart for around $3.00.

The wooden tray I ordered from here:

Counting up the cost of the magnets I used and the baking pan, the magnetic option was cheaper, but in the lang run the budget board would be cheaper, because now if I want to play something different, I'm going to have to magnetize it.

That being said, I personally prefer the magnetized tournament transportation solution.
