This also clarifies for me that special attacks attached to a weapon are in fact that type of attack. The same would hold true for a melee weapon, for instance, which I've never thought of.

That's also the reason why, when charging, you can use a melee weapon special attack (like Thresher) but not a special attack under the profile of the mini even if it allows additional melee attacks afterwards (like Combustion)
